I am the builder of dams.

Let me give you a vauge idea of my property. There is a main building, which I live in, I wont tell you the rest but there is a creek in my back yard. So, I built a dam. There is already a loose dam built of large bolders, but it has massive holes and is ineffective, so I made mini dams to plug it up, most are built out of little pieces of stone, but the biggest gap could not be filled with rocks. So I devised a basic blue print for a wooden one, I did not have much resources so its was to be constructed out of scrap wood and no binding agents (glue, nails, screws, etc.). It is a friction based dam, as long as there is enough water pressure the dam is held tight. It is a very primitive, but highly effective and cost effective design. After drawing up my plan, I went to work. Finding scrap wood and such. I first laid a long beam across the gap. I then put slats of wood across the expanse. The design was highly effective and raised the water level about six inches, I considered it a mild success. However the thin pieces of wood were simply not strong enough to withstand the weight of the water, and unfortunately caved. The next day I build another dam, using the same blueprints. This time I found think treated lumber to use. I also found another, stronger beam to stretch across the gap. I wished I could have used two beams, but the only other one long enough was lost in the collapse of the first. The wood was stronger and I placed my materials more carefully this time, the result was far more of a success than the first. The water lever was raised a foot and a half. I also place gravel at the base of the dam to prevent the wood from being knocked off balance by rising water. Today however, strong thunderstorms threaten to topple the dam, so I dismantled it in an effort to spare it from destruction. While the dam was designed to work more efficiently at higher water pressure, I was afraid the oncoming flood would set the dam off balance due to only using one cross beam and the fact the the wall lumber was tall and awkward. I also feared that the wood would not be strong enough to hold back the torrents of water expected to hit our region. I will take this as a chance to redesign the dam. Two cross beams will strengthen the structure and allow for more balance. Smaller 2"x4"s will plug the sides and hold back more water. I will keep you updated when V3 of the dam has begun construction.

Pictures, will be taken of the thrid version.

PSP2..... or not...

According to Electricpig, the newest PSP is rumored to appear at this years E3. Apparently you can forget PSP2 or PSP-4000, Sony has some thing "unique" up their sleeves. The article hit my thoughts on the head, "So if it’s not a PSP2 or a PSP phone, that does beg the question: what does that leave for the new PSP? A PSP watch? A PSP Walkman? We don’t know, but we can’t wait to find out."

The details are quite grim, while it does away with UMDs, there will not be dual analogue sticks or a touch screen. HARDLY a PSP2. But then again, who know what Sony is planning? Nothing is ever clear with this company. One minute they deny that there are future PSPs, the next someone confirms the PSP2, and now, that an unique PSP will be released, but no PSP2. Only time will tell.

Sony is really hurting itself flip flopping like this, while it is keeping people interested, I have a strong feeling Sony will let us down and  disappoint potential customers. And with the PSP being as big of a failure as it is (outside of Japan), Sony just cannot afford to let us down. Personally, I am waiting for Microsoft to sell a portable gaming device. I would sell my PSP then and there.

Starting with Linux

Linux:
The reason most people want to use Linux is because it's a free open source operating system that tends to be virus free and almost unhackable. Making in generally safer than most other operating system's. The few downsides to Linux is that it can't run everything just yet, though most programs do work in Linux, there are a few that have bugs. The only other downside I can really think of is that it's very confusing and mind boggeling to people at first. I think this is mostly due to how many distros (versions) of Linux there are and how people aren't really sure where to start. But hopefully this guide will solve some of those problems.

About Linux:
These links will explain who made Linux, what it is, how it came to be, that sort of stuff. I'm not really going into all that on my own since this is an explaination of how to get Linux, not the other stuff. If you want to learn about the other stuff, like I said before just check out the sites below.

Linux Distros:
Now on to the different versions of the OS, I'll provide links to main page of the site as well as a link to the download section. (I found it hard to find it on some sites.)
(Most versions of Linux can be burned to a CD or DVD and have the computer boot from the disc to allow the user to "test drive" the version of Linux before they actually decide to install it.)

Ubuntu: http://www.ubuntu.com/
Download: http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download

Knoppix: http://www.knoppix.org/
Download: The URL doesn't change so, click download, find a server near you (couple US ones near the bottom), click HTTP, click accept, scroll down the list and find "KNOPPIX_V3.7-2004-12-08-EN.iso" OR press CTRL-F and search for it.

DSL: http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/
Download: http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/download.html
Click the mirror you want to use, either way you'll see the same thing, just click "Archive" and find "damnsmall-0.4.10.iso"

Sabayon: http://www.sabayonlinux.org/
Download: http://www.sabayonlinux.org/mirrors
Find the right mirror for you, and depending one which one you use, you might find the same "Archive" deal as the others, or just a download page. Either way find the correct file for you.

Burning:
Now after you completed the download/s you should have a file called an ISO file. This is a disc image file and there are a few programs out there that can burn this to a CD/DVD with no problems. Here are a few of them:

ISO-Burner: http://www.ntfs.com/iso-burning.htm

MagicISO: http://www.magiciso.com/tutorials/miso-burnwin.htm

Nero 7: http://www.download.com/Nero-7-Ultra-Edition/3000-2646_4-10582585.html
(8 sucked..)

Nero 9: http://www.nero.com/enu/nero9-introduction.html

Basically just run the program, select the file, set the speed to a kinda mid-range burning speed (the slower it is the less chance you'll screw the disc up and make it useless) and burn the disc.

ISO-Burner is probably the easiest of all the ones I listed, and I've had no problems with it any time I used it to burn disc images.

Running:
Now that you've created the CD/DVD all you need to do is put it in your drive, shut down the computer, and reboot it. The computer will automatically boot from the CD/DVD most of the time, and the OS will start right up running from the CD/DVD, so don't take out the disc. If the computer does NOT boot from the disc, you might have to change how the computer boots via the BIOS menu. I can't explain how this is done since it's different on every machine, so you'll have to find that out on your own. A warning though, you can very easily mess up your computer if you don't know what you're doing in BIOS, so be very careful.

I, nor any one else involved with this blog, are not responsible for any harm that may come to your computer.

Omegle: My newest addiction

Omegle is my new favorite website. If you haven't heard of it yet you should really check it out. Omegle is a simple chat client that connects you  to a random user, anonymously. You can say anything, and the person cannot find you again, unless you exchange contact info. I found my self in several deep conversations, with complete strangers, never to speak to them again. It seems the more simple applications are, the more fun they are. TAKE HINT, GAME DEVELOPERS...

North Korea Fails

So another attempt at  trying to impress the global community by North Korea, has failed.

On Sunday, all of NK's months of planning when up in smok-- er... down in water. When their rocket, carrying a brand spanking new  satellite plunged into the sea.

I swear, I have had enough of their crap. Kim Jong is like that annoying kid down the street that is always pulling stunts, in a desperate plea for attention, because daddy ignores him him. But ins tad of skateboarding off of a house, he is firing missiles. Here is a tip for Kim.

Hello Kim, how about, instead  of trying to fire failure in  rocket form into orbit, you use that money to feed your starving people? They would like you a lot more, and you  know, if they like you.... no revolt... you don't die or go into exile... your people are nice and plump from tasty food, everyone wins!

Nintindo DSi available in the US

DSi
Well, it took them long enough, this month the newset verison of the Nintindo DS will be realeased. The newest installment will boast what you probably expect. Lighter, faster, sleeker, and what Engadget descirbes as, "more DS-y." There are some new things added to the machine. You are greeted with a flashy lights when you open it up. Along with the changes are a new menu and the loss of older gameboy backwards compatibility. This is where DS homebrewers will shine. It's up to these brave few to insure that we can still play Pokemon Blue. I salute you, I salute you...

My new favorite toy.

Ladies and gentlemen, I have just found the next great advancement in portable computing.

May I introduce to you, the Moixa multitouch shpere.
Photobucket

Now, I am not usually impressed with new technology, seeing that most of  the stuff thrown at me  is garbage, its best to assume everything is  crap until it can prove its self otherwise. But  people, this is not the  case.  Imagine useing an interactive globe. Imagine well....imagine everything  possible with this. And this is just the begenning, there will surely be more advancements from this company  in the future. It features a web browser, it even flattens out into an ellipsiod shape.

My main use for this? Google Earth. Click here, to veiw the Moixa page.
